Doctors Vs Porters
April 26 2009Just over a week ago (17th April) the annual football match between the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Doctors and the Porters took place at Truro City Football Club. The annual event was raising money for Heart of Hope with the porters winning the match by a staggering 6 goals to 0! Heart of Hope would like to congratulate the porters for winning the match and thank everyone who attended the game for their support.
I'm back
April 04 2009After saying goodbye to my kenyan family and Mike and James at the airport I checked in at Jomo Kenyatta Airport. I managed to sleep on the plane and knew I was back in England as I saw the sunrise with clouds covering the view of the land. After catching two trains I arrived back into Cornwall just after 2.15pm.
I've just shown my family some of my kenyan pictures and given them the gifts I brought for them. Am now going to relax as I'm tired after a successful yet challenging trip.

I hate saying goodbye
April 03 2009I'm saddened to write this update as its time for me to leave Kenya. In 30 minutes time I'll be leaving for the airport. Yesterday and today I've been seeing and saying goodbye to friends. Although I'm pleased to be going back to the UK I will miss Kenya so much but more importantly I'll miss the people of Kenya the most. My kenyan family the Mbaabu's, my best mate Mike and James, Fred who helps me organise my trips and of course the staff and children in Kitale. Lets me not forget my friends in Nakuru and the other people who I was not able to see.
It difficult to summarise my three weeks in Kenya. I've seen poverty, experienced corruption but also kissed a giraffe and had laugh along the way.
For those who have been reading this I hope you've enjoyed keeping up to date with my news and I apologise for the spelling mistakes!! Please keep checking Heart of Hope's website for more updates and if you can support us in any shape or form please do. To my kenyan friends and family I'll miss you so much but I'll be back as soon as I can.
Kwa heri (Goodbye)
Pete
It's time to relax
April 01 2009After two and a half weeks of working in Kenya its now time ot relax. Yesterday afternoon I went swimming but if I'm being honest I was more concerned with getting a tan as I don't want to go back to England the same colour after three weeks in Kenya! A school was having swimming lessions at the pool so I volunteered to help but my offer was turned down despite finding out later that the teacher could not swim themselves!! In the evening I had dinner Fred and his family which was really nice. Was good to spernd time with him, talk about his trip to the UK. We also had quite a heated chat about corruption and how to wipe out world poverty! Today I went into Nairobi and had lunch with a friend and played some pool with Mike and James. I then bought a few gifts for my family and saw an old friend called Kim who I have not seen since 2005. The next couple of days I'm going to enjoy myself. I'll see more friends and have a good time. My diary is crazy for when I get back to England so I'm sure I'll be glad to have had a few days to chill out before returning to work. Anyway thats all from me, thanks for reading. Pete
